The police have set up security checkpoints at several entrances of Dhaka and are conducting searches. They are searching vehicles and suspects coming from outside Dhaka.
Eyewitnesses and police sources said that in the morning, Darussalam Thana Police set up a security checkpoint in front of Gabtali Bridge, the gateway to Dhaka.
To find out about this, Inspector (Investigation) of Darus Salam Police Station, Jamal Hossain told Prothom Alo that the vehicles and suspects have been searched since morning.
Vehicles and suspects coming from outside Dhaka are also being searched in Uttara's Abdullahpur since morning.
Jyotirmoy Saha, assistant commissioner of the northern region of police, told Prothom Alo that setting up checkposts (security checkpoints) and searching is part of the regular work of the police.
After two o'clock in the afternoon, the Shyampur police station set up a security checkpoint in front of the Postgola bridge and searched the vehicles and suspected persons from outside Dhaka.
Officer-in-charge of Shyampur police station Nazrul Islam told Prothom Alo that checkposts are being set up to prevent criminals and drug dealers from entering Dhaka with weapons.
Meanwhile, BNP has complained that more than 50 leaders and workers of their party and organizations were arrested in various places of the capital on Thursday night.
In this regard, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Md. Farooq Hossain told Prothom Alo that the police are not arresting BNP leaders and workers ahead of the mass meeting. Only those leaders-activists who have cases and arrest warrants are being arrested.
A press release of RAB 2 said, that patrolling by special forces has been arranged in Mohammadpur, Adabar, Dhanmondi, Kalabagan, Newmarket, Hazaribagh, Sherbangla Nagar, Tejgaon and Tejgaon industrial areas from this morning to keep the situation normal and avoid any untoward situation.
